The baptistery was designed by Mr Dunstan Powell of Hardman & Co. to commemorate S. Philip’s Florentine origins. The upper part of the walls is in white plaster with a baroque frieze of cherubs; the lower part is panelled with ebony inlaid with mother-of-pearl. The font was carved out of a single block of white alabaster by Bridgeman of Lichfield and the bronze canopy with its statue of S. John the Baptist is by Mr Powell.
